One of the best viral marketing sites I’ve ever seen
Ever since this “interweb” thing came around, it’s become a breeding ground for a whole new type of marketing campaigns. Including viral videos that support viral marketing.
All you need is a little word of mouth, and the “virus” as they call it - gets out there. A friend of mine sent me a link this week. Now, it wasn’t a virus, per-se… there wasn’t any danger to my computer. But I was certainly hit with some viral marketing I probably won’t soon forget.
The site is pomegranatephone.com. In the cleanly put-together intro video, it calls itself “The ultimate all in one device”… and “where no phone has gone before”. Me being a gadgetgeek, I’m automatically intrigued. When I go into the site, it gives me all these features of this wonder-phone to explore, complete with some very professionally-done videos to show how it works. It claims it has a projector, that can project movies in HD resolution onto screen for your viewing. I’m thinking “Alright… I’m pretty sure that’s impossible…but okay…”
The next feature says “Global Voice Translator”. It claims you can speak one language into the phone, and it will then play an audio translation to a language of your choice. The video shows an international business meeting as an example. This phone is looking pretty cool at this stage.
Then things get a little… weird. The next three features are just ridiculous. It says it’s a portable coffee brewer, a shaver, and a harmonica. Your phone doing all these things? Um… no… this can’t be true… So I go and click on the button to see the release date for for this literally unbelievable phone. And when I do it redirects me to another site… promoting Nova Scotia!
Nova Scotia. Who would have ever thought Nova Scotia would put out a viral video to spark interest in their province? The website goes on to promote tourism, as well as migration of Canadians to Nova Scotia. I personally don’t have any interest in going to the east coast right now, but I certainly forwarded this link to some friends - mostly because I think people will get a kick out of it. But since this is a form of viral marketing, I guess that’s all the creators wanted me to do… So I guess it worked!

Thanks for sharing this viral campaign Denise. I’d love to pull off something like this for one of my clients.
Congratulations for getting this article picked up in WOMMA’s newsletter for July 16. Glad it led me to your site. Searching for Denise Wong on Twitter. Are you there by chance?
